SMS Marketing vs. Email Marketing: What are the Differences?

SMS marketing and email marketing may appear similar and can seem like almost the same idea, but there are some key differences between the two that make them each effective in their own way. Trying to figure out which option is best for your company can be a tough task, as they both are viable solutions.

One thing that is for certain, is without the use of either SMS marketing or email marketing, you miss out on connecting with customers and building stronger relationships with them. Both forms of marketing are very useful for keeping in touch with your customers, which is very helpful in turning more of them into loyal customers.

But now for the real question, how are they different?

SMS marketing

SMS marketing is essentially a text message marketing service. Which is where you create a short text message with information in it that is sent directly to customers’ phones, and where they can respond with something called a keyword back to the number to receive more information pertaining to the topic.

SMS can be used to send automatic appointment reminders, flash sale coupons, exclusive promotions, and more! You can also set it up to allow two-way communication which allows you to be able to communicate directly with customers, helping build a stronger relationship with them.

SMS messages are very useful for when you want to provide a quick and immediate notifications for those who you want to contact. It is a quick yet simple mode of communication that allows you direct access to contacts’ phones, making for a more direct and personal form of contact.

Email marketing

Email marketing is where you use emails to market to customers. It is a digital marketing strategy in which you create an email containing information that is sent directly to the customer’s email inbox.

Email is also a quick and efficient way to reach out and connect to contacts by sending them alerts, surveys, marketing newsletters, thank you emails, and more! Emailing has the highest ROI of any communication method as it is ranked as one of the most effective forms of marketing.

Emails are useful when you want to provide a contact with more information than can be efficiently sent through an SMS They are also useful for when you want to collect information on a given situation or item via the use of a survey that recipients can fill out to give feedback or insight.

Which method should I use?

Comparing SMS marketing vs. email marketing and choosing between the two, or even if you should use both, is a hard decision. They both have strong qualities that make them effective forms of marketing and communication. But not using either of them risks the chance of less loyal customers or even losing existing customers.

Choosing which one to use is up to a user’s preference, but it is also up to what information you want to be sending your contacts. Do you want it to be a short, quick, and immediate message or a longer, more informative one?
